Helping Pay For Hockey

There are several ways to obtain financial help with the financial costs of hockey:

BMHA - Goalie equipment loaned for FREE

For our free Goalie Equipment loaner program, available to members at any age, contact our Equipment Manager at equipment@blackburnstingers.ca

Kidsport Ottawa

KidSport Ottawa helps kids overcome social and economic barriers preventing or limiting their participation in organized sport. Please access the KidSport Ottawa site to apply for a grant.

Canadian Tire Jumpstart

Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities was launched to address an issue of national concern; the inactivity of kids. National in scope, but local in its focus, Jumpstart helps kids in financial need participate in organized sports and physical activities by assisting with the costs associated with registration, equipment and/or transportation. Please access the jumpstart site for further information and instructions on applying for funding through either the regular Jumpstart program or The Big Play, a program focused on hockey.

Application for BMHA Financial Assistance

Each year, the BMHA sets aside part of its budget to help subsidize the cost of registration fees for those in financial need.  A subsidy is available for House League applications only.  Competitive team fees are such that the BMHA's subsidy budget cannot responsibly be used for competitive team applications.

All applications must be received by 11:59 pm on September 1, 2023. Please email the completed application form and send the related documents to financial_assistance@blackburnstingers.ca

All requests will be answered by September 15, 2023.

Financial assistance is available to members of the BMHA whose families would suffer undue hardship as a result of the BMHA registration fee. To be considered for assistance please fill out the application in full, include an explanation as to why help is needed, and provide all required documents (please see list below). Please note that subsidy is for registration fees and not team fees which usually range from $200- $400.  Subsidies will not normally be provided when family income exceeds $60,000 gross per year.

The BMHA Financial Aid Committee will hold applications in the strictest of confidence.

Copies of the following documentation must be submitted for reference with the application to be considered for financial assistance. If documentation is missing then the applicant will be contacted directly to submit the missing documentation by a specific date for the application to be considered.

Failure to provide the above requested information could result in no financial assistance.

All applications and related documents received will be destroyed once the BMHA Financial Aid Committee has completed its work for the season.
